Brugge, Belgium

The main reason we headed to Belgium this weekend was to see our great friend Joni Byker. Joni was passing through Brussels on her way back to Africa - so we just couldn't resist her being this close! We had talked of meeting in Brussels, but she had heard of this great town called Brugge that she wanted to go to....so since we also wanted to go there...we decided to meet in Brugge. We set a place and a time - and hoped we would find eachother - we did! It was GREAT to see Joni again. Joni was traveling with her friend Bev, and Bev's two boys Isaac and Felix. The kids had a great time with the boys as well.

Brugge is a lovely town with the "old world" feel. It was a huge cloth trading center back in the 14th century. Today it is full of charm - and tourists!

The Belfry...built in the 1300's! WOW! You can climb up the 366 steps for a great view...however we did not...too many steps with too many children!

Of course we couldn't resist getting more Belgian Waffles for lunch.

We sat outside right under the Belfry tower. The wind was blowing a bit - and I didn't realize it, but the powdered sugar from Shaylee's waffle blew all over my camera lens...thus the foggy picture of Jer and Syd.

Another treat that we couldn't resist was Pommes Frits (French Fries)....served up with mayo and ketchup....YUM, YUM, YUM! We had just ate waffles....but we all dug in like we hadn't eaten in days!

We spent the afternoon walking around the town and enjoying the sites.

We also got to see Michaelangelo's Madonna and Child, which is his only work that was taken outside of Italy during his lifetime.

Just having a good time...

Thanks for a great day Joni, Bev, Isaac, and Felix. We are so glad we made the trip and got to see you - if only briefly. May God continue to bless you and the work you are doing in Africa!!
