Documentation Center and Bunkers

While we were at Obersalzburg we also went to the Documentation Center there and toured the underground bunkers. The bunker system here was amazing!
Jer and Shane outside the Documentation Center - and the start of the bunker system.

Peering into one of the many rooms - and standing in an air-raid shelter. At one time these rooms were completely and lavishly furnished - however now all that remains is the bare concrete. Many places are now blocked off from visitors - but if they weren't you could easily get lost in the maze of underground tunnels (apparently 4 miles worth). Amazing how these bunkers were carved/built out of the rock in these mountains.
Below is a picture of a buffer where on the otherside was an entrance to the bunkers. Each entrance was built with 3 machine guns aimed at the entrance behind a buffer wall. Peering through one of the machine gun holes - can you make out the staircase? Any uninvited guest didn't stand a chance.
