We took a gondola ride up to Schwarzsee (black lake) Paradise. This is the closest view you can get of the Matterhorn (besides climbing it yourself). There are hiking trails from this lift station to get right up on the Matterhorn base. We opted for a nice hike by the lake.
GOING UP!!!! Boy was it a steep ride up the mountainside. Look at the valley below! WOW! And what is that?? Yes, a famous Switzerland cow in a steep meadow with its cowbell claning.
At the top the views were amazing. The little chapel up by the lake was built by hikers who lost their way in the fog. They prayed and said that if God would help them find their way, they would build a chapel on that spot. The next morning the fog cleared and the sun revealed the Matterhorn...thus they built the chapel. Mountains all around us. Jer taking a little nap in the warm sun high up in the ALPS! The last pictures is of the Gorner glacier. It was such a gorgeous day - we really enjoyed our time up in the mountains.
