The past few weeks we've had 2 additional "flat" members in our family. Flat Sam joined us from Taiwan. Shane's class at school has pen-pals from Taiwan. They flattened themselves and came to Germany to learn and experience life here. Shane had to take pictures with Sam and then write about what he did with Sam and send the information back to his pen-pal in Taiwan. Sam helped Shane with his homework, played guitar, and even got to go along on Shane's ski trip to Switzerland.
Flat Stacie joined us for one week. She came from our friends the Pannings in the US. Dani Panning's Girl Scout Troop flattened themselves so they could also learn about other parts of the US and the world. I kept a daily journal of the activities we did with Stacie. We took a picture of Stacie with our Deutschland map - showing that she had safely arrived in Germany!
It was a good thing Flat Stacie was laminated - because Shelby really liked giving her kisses:) Stacie enjoyed riding in the stroller with Shelby when I went to pick up Silas from Kindergarten. And then Silas gave her a ride on his lauftrad.
Sydney read to Flat Stacie in German and thus taught her a few words in German.

Both Flat Sam and Flat Stacie (as well as mommy) were fortunate to come along on Shane's class field trip to the Technik Museum in Speyer. Here they enjoyed hanging out with Shane and his class mates. They saw plenty of trains, planes, and automobiles! My favorite part was seeing the space shuttle, I hope they liked it too. But I think their highlight might have been the IMAX show.
Flat Stacie also joined us on a family outing to the vineyards for a wine walk (see next post for more on that). It was fun having Flat Sam and Flat Stacie visit our family. They fit in perfect with their "S" names as well - but I think we will stick with 5 kids for now:)
